childhood friends, but some not from like 5 year old childhood but like pre high school friends
or if they are in the workplace then some will include high school friend/rivals
not all the best stories but ones that fit the trope. i might not like them all, but that does not mean others who are looking for this trope would also not like it. in fact there is a story on here i rated lower than 5/10. but alas
